[Updated on April 28th, 2025]
The National Institute of Science and Technology on Social and Affective Neuroscience – INCT-SANI (CNPq, Brazil) is seeking candidates for TWO investigator-funded postdoctoral fellowships. The selected candidates will work on one of two ongoing projects focused on A) the mental health of university students, and B) the influence of ideology and political behavior on intergroup relations, polarization, and ideological asymmetries.
About the projects:
[ A ] A longitudinal study on mental health, development, and academic performance among university students. Data collection is currently underway with undergraduates at Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, in São Paulo.
[EDITED] This is a hybrid position, allowing for remote work; however, the researcher is expected to be available for in-person meetings and other on-site activities as requested, usually once a week.
About the position:
The researcher will be responsible for adapting and conducting the study with postgraduate students.
They will work in close collaboration with a team of professors, PhDs, other postdoctoral researchers, graduate, and undergraduate students involved in the broader research project.
The research grant follows the standard postdoctoral fellowship guidelines from CNPq.
We are seeking a candidate with prior experience in data collection, database management, and scientific writing. Training or professional experience in epidemiology, public health, mental health across the lifespan, or related areas is also required.
Experience with longitudinal studies and the ability to conduct statistical analyses such as latent class analysis, developmental trajectory analysis, and mediation/moderation analysis is desirable.
[ B ] A study to investigate the influence of ideology and political behavior on intergroup relations, polarization, and ideological asymmetries. This project will explored the factors shaping worldviews and ideologies, requiring expertise in correlational and experimental designs, multivariate data analysis, and psychometrics - at Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, in Porto Alegre, RS.
The successful candidates will be expected to oversee data collection through various instruments and interventions, conducting statistical analyses, preparing scientific manuscripts, and working with existing datasets. Proficiency in programming languages such as R and familiarity with statistical techniques—including factor analysis and structural equation modeling—are strongly recommended. A background in Political Psychology is also expected.
The selected candidates will benefit from participating in cutting-edge research at an innovative institute, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Jessica Maruyama (project A, in São Paulo) and Professor Dr. Angelo Brandelli Costa (project B, in Porto Alegre).
